Rubin reserves boss Roman Sharonov on ROSGOSSTRAKH Russian U21 Championship MD 18 Rubin vs CSKA (0:1)
-CSKA dominated the first half. Did they take you by surprise?
-We did not do so well in our defense-attack transition and we were not able to determine well those zones where we could have had overloads. We should have played a more vertical football when building from behind. CSKA pressed and our distances were too short, so CSKA players were quite comfortable with that. They would won the ball back and start their attacks therefore they had quite a lot of chances. We should have played longer balls. As for the play switch and changing the direction: we were making some wrong decisions there for we should have played vertically to unbalance the opposition formation drawing out their players in order to play between their lines. We should also have switched the play faster through our central midfielders and insides using a diamond shape in our attacks. In this case we would have created overloads there, but we did not use this opportunity. CSKA felt quite comfortable: they pressed and won the ball back. Also, we were not good at 1x1 duels. Regarding our playing structure, the first half was not that bad, but we made many individual mistakes both when we were with the ball and in terms of duels.
- Did the absence of Akhmetov and Shekari affect our midfield performance today?
— They are the first team players. I don’t think that their absence affect. As for the second half, the guys understood what I wanted from them and started to use those zones where could have created overload and we had some good attacks. Unfortunately, these attacks were never converted. Regarding the second half, we played better that the first one and the boys managed to create those situations that I wanted from them.
