FC Rubin and goalkeeper Sergei Ryzhikov reached agreement on extension a contract.
Sergei Ryzhikov joined FC Rubin in January 2008. He immediately became the main goalkeeper. In the debut season in Kazan Sergei Ryzhikov helped Rubin to win the first gold medals of the Russian Championship in the club’s history and to repeat this achievement next year. With FC Rubin Sergei Ryzhikov is two-time champion of Russia (2008, 2009), two-time winner of the Russian Supercup (2010, 2012), winner of the Russian Cup (2011/12), and bronze medalist of the Russian Championship (2010). He participated in the FIFA World Cup 2014 in Brazil with the Russian national team.
Sergei Ryzhikov, goalkeeper of FC Rubin:
— When I signed the first contract for four years in 2007, I didn’t want to make long-term plans, to tell the truth. I had a purpose to join the club and to begin to play in it. I wanted to try the taste of the big football. In this ten year history there is a particle of mine, I am proud of that. Plans for the future? To be well prepared for the match in Tomsk; good game will help to forget a negative result of the last matches. To finish the Championship on a positive note. We have nine tours, and every tour is a battle, which we must win. Talking about long-term plans, the aim is to extend a contract one more time (laughs).
Rustam Sayakhov, general manager of FC Rubin:
— We have extended a contract with our goalkeeper Sergei Ryzhikov to the great happiness of the club and fans. We were moving for this moment for long, agreement was reached, representatives of our deeply respected goalkeeper showed maximum loyalty to the club. Sergei is a soul of the team and club, he is with FC Rubin for ten years. We expect, Sergei will play safely and surely as always, he will defend the colors and honor of our club. We have signed a 1+1 contract, and we expect that for the whole time we will be together with Sergei.
Ilgiz Fahriev, sport manager of FC Rubin:
— From the professional point of view, Sergei is one of the best goalkeepers in the Russian football for today. Finding a replacement for him makes no sense, he proves that by his game. That’s why we are very glad, that we have Sergei Ryzhikov as our first number again.
On March 9 2015 Sergei Ryzhikov played the 200th match in the Russian championships and joined the symbolical Viktor Surkov’s club. On September 21 2015 he played 100th match without conceded goals. By now 36-year-old goalkeeper has 337 matches for our team in the different tournaments: 260 in Premier League, 43 in Europa League, 16 in Champions League, 15 in the Russian Cup, and 3 in Supercup. It is the biggest number of played matches among current players of the team, and the fourth result in the club’s history!
